Player A is the server, and player B practices the return of serve.
Drill:
For this exercise player B’s purpose is to return the serve so that the balls land beyond the service line. For every shot that B sends between the service line, baseline and side lines the player accumulates 1 point. For any other spot that B’s return lands is considered 0 points.
Player A will just practice her serve using a combination of spin, placement and power to keep player B quick in his reaction.
The drill continues until B earns 10 points. That’s when the two players can either switch roles (B serves and A returns) or sides (if A served from the right, now she’ll do it from the left).
Note:
The drill above is a good exercise for developing muscle memory regarding placing the return of serve deep into the opponent’s court.
