A line of players is behind the deuce side baseline, one player is on the other side of the net and inside the deuce service box; the coach stands just outside the doubles alley, and on the same side as the single player (see graphic below).

Drill:
The coach feeds a ball to the first player in line. He will play the point out against the opposing net player sending the ball only cross-court, alleys included.

If the net player wins, he’ll stay and play against the next player in line. If the baseline player wins, he’ll take the position at the net.

Notes:
– Keep this drill going for about 6 – 9 minutes then switch sides: players on the ad side (net and baseline).
– Excellent drill for improving net skills against different opponents.
– No lobs should be allowed for this drill.
– To minimize waiting in line, the coach should feed the ball as soon as the previous point is over and give 5 seconds to the new net player to take his position.
