This drill can be done with one player or a group and it is good for serve warm-up.
The player begins at the service line and practices serving (pushing) the ball over the net and into the proper service court. Since this is a warm-up, the player should “push” the ball over the net gently.
If he hits the ball into the proper service box, he will make a step back (towards the baseline). He will continue to serve and step back for every successful serve in; but, if he misses (hits the ball into the net or out) he’ll make a step forward (towards the net).
The player will eventually get to the baseline increasing the serve power as he moves further away from the net.
If done with a group of players, the coach should line them up along the service line to begin, considering a safe distance between players.
Note:
– more advanced players should be required to hit the ball with a higher intensity so that it bounces no more than 3 times before it meets the back fence.
