There is a team of two players (A-B) at the baseline, on one side. Opposite side, at the baseline, the other teams line up ready to play (C-D, E-G). The coach (F) is on the same side as the A-B (defenders) team ready to feed from the basket. (see graphic below)
Drill:
The goal is for the attacking team (C-D or E-G) to win 3 points in a row against the defenders (A-B).
Ball 1: The coach feeds a short ball for team C-D to move up to the net and play the point against A-B. If they win, they get the second ball from the coach.
Ball 2: The coach feeds a lob for the attacking team (C-D). They play it out. If C-D wins they receive the third ball.
Ball 3: The coach feeds another lob which the teams play out. If the attacking team (C-D) wins the third point as well, they will run to the other side and replace the defending team.
At any time, if the attacking team loses the point, they quickly exit the court to make room for the next team to attack (in this case, E-G).
Variation:
- The attacking team can be required to let the second lob (third ball) bounce before playing it.
- For advanced players, the attacking team could play all the balls in the air (no bounce); in this case coach’s first feed should be taken in the air by the approaching team.
