The offensive personnel plays a crucial role in determining the success of a team's performance. The personnel selection process is essential in building a cohesive and productive offensive unit. It involves analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of individual players and matching them with specific roles on the team. Selecting the right personnel can make a significant difference in the team's ability to execute plays and score points.

The first step in selecting personnel is to identify the offensive scheme the team will run. The offensive scheme outlines the team's strategy and determines the types of players required to execute it effectively. For instance, if the team plans to run a pass-heavy offense, they would need receivers who are fast and have good hands. Alternatively, if the team plans to focus on running the ball, they would need running backs and offensive linemen who are strong and can create holes for the running back.

Once the offensive scheme has been determined, the next step is to assess individual players' skills and abilities to determine their suitability for specific positions. This includes evaluating players' speed, agility, strength, and other physical attributes required for their specific roles. It also involves assessing their mental and strategic abilities, such as their decision-making skills and their ability to read and react to the defense.

The importance of selecting the right personnel cannot be overstated. A poorly selected team may struggle to execute plays effectively, leading to missed opportunities and a lack of scoring. On the other hand, a well-selected team can take advantage of their strengths and exploit their opponents' weaknesses, leading to greater success on the field.

In addition to the tactical benefits, selecting the right personnel can also have a positive impact on team morale and cohesion. Red Zone Bracket & Adjustments

What is a Red Zone Bracket? 

Bracket coverage is used to provide double coverage on a single receiver . Brackets come in a number of different forms, and they're used for a variety of reasons. The starting point for bracket coverage is to begin with its place in football. The two main coverages in football are zone and man. 

The two types of bracket coverage are the “Under/ Over” commonly known as the vertical bracket and the “In/Out” coverage known as the horizontal bracket. There are positive effects to implementing the bracket coverage. It gives the defensive coordinator the ability to have a wide receiver on double coverage, resulting in eliminating a mismatch, in addition to having leverage on deep routes. 

The “Under/Over” Bracket

One defensive player uses a tactic called trail technique to cover below breaks from the inside or outside while another player provides deep support from above. Vertical brackets is the name. A wide receiver is stuck between two defenders. One player remains low and in front, while the deep player remains high and in the end. 

The “In/Out” Bracket

On a wide receiver, this particular bracket gives horizontal leverage to the defense. One defensive player will cover him from the inside out while the other will work from the outside in. This kind of coverage is simple to conceal and mislead, essentially could be used on any receiver. 

A good defense may bend, but it won't break!  To be successful with that philosophy, third down and red zone success are critical

The entire progression and how it materializes in games.

As background, this was implemented by Coach Diaz in 2014.  After spring practice they watched all tackle opportunities in the summer from that spring session. He said to his coaches, “Give me your clinic talk on how to tackle.”

What they found was eye-opening.  The old “form tackle” just didn’t occur that often. After this exercise, they adopted the Hawk tackle. It’s an easier way to tackle because this is how it presents itself in the game even when it’s not perfect.

D-Line fundamentals & Technique 

“A good defensive lineman has to be part buffalo and part ballet dancer.”

In order for that to happen, there must be two things in place: proper fundamentals and technique. Without the two you’ll have straight concrete poles as your defensive line. Incorporating the basics and techniques necessary to succeed will allow you to develop the buffalo that can stop the run and the ballet dancer who comes off the edge with athleticism and speed to beat the blocker and sack the quarterback.

What are the fundamentals & techniques for defensive linemen?

Practicing fundamentals like block destruction, tackling, identity and takeaways can greatly enhance a player's abilities to impact a game. The number one objective is to stop the run. Less than three yards a carry, that's the goal. 

Technique goes a long way. Starting from your launch/ gett off time to your ability to have proper use of hands and feet. A buffalo can explode off the line and make their opponent step back. A ballet dancer can maneuver off the edge with graceful footwork and fast hands.

Defensive run fits in multiple fronts

What is a run fit? 

One thing is certain, defensive alignments are the most important when utilizing run fits. To comprehend run fits, we must first understand what a run fit is. A run fit is when a defensive lineman and/or linebacker enter a gap to prevent a running back from running through it. If the running back is moving side to side, he is not gaining yards, which allows the defense to get to the ball.

Single gap run fits are the most common. They require each defender to focus on one gap. The defensive line is shaded toward the gap they will control, while the linebackers line up in the gap they will control.

To understand run fits, we must understand how gaps are created. Defensive players on any team will assign each player a specific gap to cover. Run fits are the defensive's communication of who is to cover what gap. That's how solid run defense is achieved!
